Hi, I’m Dad. But the chances are I’m probably not your Dad, so you can call me Kev if you like.

My wife and I recently adopted two little people. My wife is a teaching assistant, so is amazing with kids. I, on the other hand, am completely and utterly useless when it comes to kids. Imagine a grown man introducing himself to a child and trying to shake hands because he doesn’t know what else to do.

Yeah, that’s me!

After placement day my wife immediately started keeping a journal and it’s coming in very handy for looking back at what we have done. Especially when the various social workers come to visit.

My wife is old skool though (see what I did there — “skool” — I’m so cool), writing her journal by hand, in a notebook. Since I’m down with the kids, and not a Luddite, I decided to publish my journal online and this site is the result.

Now, to my earlier point, I’m completely useless with kids and to be honest I’m struggling with this whole thing a little bit. So Dad’s Notebook may give you a laugh or two along the way.

I hope you enjoy my notes, if you have any feedback, or if you just want someone to talk to about adoption etc. you can contact me if you like.

Dad, out.
